N ot too many years ago TAFEs were regarded as little more than the ‘go to’ place for people who wanted to learn a trade. A place where people went if they didn’t get into university and a great place for adult learners to pick up a few new skills. Today, in 2017 with strong financial backing from the Andrews Labour government, TAFEs have brilliantly re-emerged from the darkness to form the backbone of the state’s vocational training system. A collective of 12 TAFEs and four dual sector Institutes, these modern, contemporary organisations are now at the forefront of new technologies and future industries. In fact, according to the 2016 Australia Jobs Report, nine of the top ten occupations predicted to have the most jobs growth in the next five years are in TAFE training areas. With over 500 courses to choose from and a variety of different delivery modes, TAFE is the one place where you will be given the real life skills and qualifications you need for the jobs of today and tomorrow. Jennifer Peart learnt this first hand when she started her TAFE experi- ence as a veterinary nursing student in the few short years following her VCE graduation. Studying part time, with a 12 week old child in tow, Jennifer is now working as a veterinary nurse, and has begun studying a Bachelor of Zoology and Animal Science part time at Deakin University. Winner of the Victorian Vocational Student of the Year at the 2016 Victorian Training Awards, Jennifer says “The best thing about my training was the opportunity to do hands on work experience within a veterinary clinic and from that gain a job and a career in an industry that I love” When it comes to your career dream big, because whatever your plan is, TAFE will take you there. Jennifer’s dreams of working with animals made possible through TAFE Jennifer is pursuing her passion working with animals, thanks to a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing qualification at The Gordon. 21-23 July 2017 ROYAL EXHIBITION BUILDING CARLTON GARDENS, MELBOURNE, VICTORIA REAL JOB OPPORTUNITIES FREE SEMINARS & RESUME ADVICE INFO FOR STUDENTS, APPRENTICES & JOB SEEKERS PLUS EXPERTS FROM TRADE, CORPORATE AND PROFESSIONAL SECTORS DATES FRIDAY 21 JULY 10AM - 3PM SATURDAY 22 JULY 10AM - 4PM SUNDAY 23 JULY 10AM - 4PM careerexpo.com.au Discover your future EVENT GUIDE CAREER EXPO 1 tafe.vic.gov.au Dedicated foodie and restaurateur.
