G rowing up in Tumut Sam McGruer loved fishing and camping at dams that are part of the Snowy Scheme and developed an interest in how the Scheme worked. So when Sam was looking for an apprenticeship in the electrical industry a job at Snowy Hydro seemed like the perfect fit. Starting with Snowy Hydro in 2013, Sam has done a wide range of work in electrical maintenance as well as overhaul and refurbishment work and also the commissioning of control and protection systems. Day-to-day Sam works in a variety of locations, from inside the Snowy Hydro power stations to out in the field at beautiful locations working on scheduled maintenance tasks or responding to alarms and faults. Sam enjoys working on the Scheme that he was fascinated in as a kid and he also loves the opportunity to work in such a unique and beautiful environment, with the variety of locations and tasks making for an interesting and satisfying role with enough challenge to keep him learning all the time. At Snowy Hydro there are always opportunities for training and upskilling and support to further your career and Sam is making the most of every opportunity.
