CALL 13 19 01 OR VISIT DEFENCEJOBS.GOV.AU I n January over 250 excited candidates from across the country were welcomed into the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Mildura local, Dylan Watson attended the Austral- ian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Canberra, where he will be trained to become a future leader in the Australian Army. Dylan will spend three years undergoing extensive military training to further build on his inherent leadership qualities. Concurrently he will study his degree through the University of NSW (UNSW). Senior Military Recruitment Officer Melbourne, Squadron Leader Monica Bugala said the young men and women appointed today are selected because of their aptitude and personal qualities necessary to succeed in the Army at ADFA. “The Army and ADFA want enthusiastic team players, who enjoy a challenge, are willing to work hard, and who will strive for excellence,” Squad- ron Leader Bugala said. Dylan said what started out as applying for a Gap Year Program position changed when he saw videos of life at ADFA. “Going from a Domino’s employee and local soccer referee to the Army is going to take some adjustment, but this is a once in a lifetime oppor- tunity to serve my country,” Dylan said. “I will be earning a salary while I study and train as a General Service Officer, and I have hopes to join the Australian Army Band Corps.” In addition to military, leadership and management training, appointees attending ADFA will pursue a range of degrees including Arts, Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Science and Technology. Applications are open for the ADFA 2018 intake. The process can take up to 12 months so apply now.
